Before you start

Before you can take your first lesson you will need to apply for a provisional driving licence from the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) ::click here:: to request a form or to apply on-line.

Your First Lesson

You will spend much of your first lesson getting to know your instructor and learning the basics of the car. Your instructor will be able to find out a little more about your previous driving experiences and special requirements in order to make sure you get the most out of your lessons. Theory & Hazard test

The theory test is a 50 question multiple choice test. To pass, you must answer 43 or more questions correctly within 60 minutes.

The hazard test shows you a series of 14 video clips, each showing potential hazards involving road conditions, pedestrians or road users. There are 15 hazards to identify and you can score up to five points on each one, depending on how quickly you identify them. The faster you identify a hazard which would affect the driver, the higher you score. You need to score at least 44 out of 75 to pass this test. The current price for a theory test is £31.00

Practical Test

Your practical test will last approx 40 minutes, you will need to demonstrate everything you have learned in your driving lessons. You’ll need to show you can drive competently and safely in all kinds of driving situations. You’ll be asked to do one manoeuvre you’ve practised with your instructor, possibly make an emergency stop and answer two vehicle safety check questions. To pass, you will have to complete the test with no serious faults and no more than 15 minor errors. A weekday test costs £62.00 For a saturday test it is £75.  Pass Plus

Pass Plus was developed by the Driving Standards Agency. It is a six part training course which helps new drivers get experience in towns, all-weathers, out of town and rural roads, night driving, dual carriageway and motorways. Each part lasts an hour.
